If you’ve never popped into Magic Wash Laundromat before, the whole thing might feel a bit daunting. But don’t stress! We’re here to help you tackle your washing and drying like a legend, with a smile. Here’s your friendly guide to getting the most out of your visit to Magic Wash Laundromat in Brompton.
What to Bring Before You Head In
Make sure you’ve got everything for a smooth session:
Laundry powder or liquid detergentWe recommend powder in our washers, but liquid’s sweet too. Forgot yours? Our vending machine’s got you covered—no dramas. Be sure to read the detergent instructions on the packet—front-loader machines only need about half the detergent a top-loader does.
Laundry basket or bag Bring one to cart your gear in. We’ve got plenty of space under the folding benches to stow your basket while you wait.
Using Our Washing Machines
Once you’re through the doors, follow these easy steps:
Inspect the machine Give the drum a quick peek—every now and then someone leaves behind a stray sock or pair of undies.
Sort your load Keep whites, darks, and delicates separate to avoid any surprise colour runs or damage to your fabrics. Pro tip: Add ½ cup of white vinegar to the detergent drawer—it deodorises your wash, acts as a natural softener, and helps “set” colours so they don’t run.
Pay at the kiosk or pop in coins Tap-and-go with Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayWave at our kiosk, or chuck in coins if that’s more your style.
Add detergent Each machine has compartments for powder, softener, and bleach—just follow the handy stickers.
Choose the temperature – Hot for whites and grubby gear – Cold for darks and delicates
Close the door and press Start Give the door a quick check so nothing gets caught, then hit Start.
Drying Your Clothes
When your wash finishes, it’s onto the dryers:
Check your pockets Fish out any tissues, coins, or pens so they don’t wreck your load or the machine.
Shake out each item This helps them dry evenly.
Pay for your drying time
Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayWave? Tap at the kiosk and pick how long you’d like.
Coins? Slide them into the slot until you’ve got enough credit.
Select the heat setting – High heat for towels and heavy fabrics – Low heat for delicates
Choose a suitable dry time - 20 minutes is okay for delicates, but towels and heavy fabrics really need 30 minutes.
Press the correct Start button If your dryer is part of a stack, make sure you hit the up arrow for the top machine or the down arrow for the bottom one.
Top Tip: Stack dryers need to be paid for and started one at a time—otherwise all your credit might disappear into just one drum! If that happens, flick us a message via the QR code on the machine and we’ll sort out a refund, no worries.
Laundromat Etiquette
We all share the space, so a bit of Aussie courtesy goes a long way:
Be punctual Return before your cycle ends so someone else can jump in. If you’re running late, your neighbours might want to clear your load to free up the machine.
Keep it tidy Use headphones if you’re jamming to tunes, bin your rubbish, and let us know via QR code if you spot any spills, leaks, or machine dramas.
Use the pet machines Got pet bedding or blankets? Our dedicated pet washers keep sneezes at bay for anyone with allergies.
